Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve to close for tourists from May 29 with the onset of the monsoon season, bringing the current tourism cycle to an end.
As per online reports, the final jeep safari for visitors will operate on May 28, after which tourism activities inside the UNESCO World Heritage Site will be suspended due to heavy rainfall and flooding risks that typically affect large sections of the park during the monsoon months.
Arun Vignesh, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, reportedly stated that the decision was taken considering the prevailing rainfall conditions and the deteriorating condition of roads both inside and around the protected area, making several zones inaccessible during the rainy season.
The park reportedly witnessed strong tourist footfall during the latest season, attracting over 4.7 lakh visitors, including a notable rise in international travellers.
