Bengal to get INR 500 Cr tourism infrastructure makeover: CM Suvendu

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari accused successive governments of failing to protect the state's natural resources and said this had affected its tourism growth.
Unveiling the new logo of the state tourism department at a programme, Adhikari said INR 500 crore had been allocated to overhaul tourism infrastructure to attract domestic and foreign tourists.
Adhikari was accompanied by Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh and Industry Minister Tapas Roy at the programme held at Dhana Dhanya Auditorium.
“We have destroyed the tourism infrastructure in our state even as other states have moved forward. Tourists pass through West Bengal to reach Sikkim. More than Darjeeling and Kalimpong, they prefer Gangtok. We have to come out of this,” he said.
The government is also stepping up its focus on wildlife tourism in north Bengal, with Adhikari announcing plans to introduce tigers at Buxa Tiger Reserve on October 2. The initiative is expected to give a further boost to tourism in the region and enhance Buxa’s positioning as a wildlife tourism destination.
