The Government of Kerala has appointed Anu Kumari, a 2018-batch IAS officer of the Kerala cadre, as the new Director of Tourism. The appointment comes as part of a major administrative reshuffle announced recently, in which the state government transferred 35 senior IAS officers across key departments, including home, finance, health, tourism, and power.
Prior to this appointment, Kumari served as Special Commissioner, GST, Kerala, a role she assumed in 2026 following her transfer from the position of District Collector of Thiruvananthapuram. During her tenure as District Collector, her administrative responsibilities frequently intersected with local cultural events, community development initiatives, and tourism coordination. She also received recognition for efficient district administration.
Throughout her career, Kumari has been a vocal advocate for Kerala's cultural identity, often speaking publicly about the state's deep-rooted traditions, high literacy rates, and rich cultural heritage. She has also been an active participant in community and cultural programs during her previous postings, reflecting a strong engagement with the grassroots cultural fabric that underpins Kerala's tourism appeal.
