Bihar approves INR 3,516 crore tourism-related projects for Gaya

The Vishnupad Temple complex development at INR 2,520 crore aims to modernise facilities and accommodate the large influx of devotees visiting Gaya annually for rituals. Additionally, INR 996.05 crore has been designated for the Son-Falgu River Linking Project.
The Bihar Cabinet has approved INR 3,516 crore worth of projects for Gaya, including the Vishnupad Corridor and the Son–Falgu river-link initiative. The development is aimed at improving tourism infrastructure and visitor facilities while strengthening Gaya’s position as one of India’s important religious, spiritual and cultural tourism destinations.
Modelled on the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in Varanasi, the Vishnupad Temple complex development at INR 2,520 crore aims to modernise facilities and accommodate the large influx of devotees visiting Gaya annually for Pind Daan rituals. Also, under the INR 996.05-crore Son-Falgu River Linking Project, an intake well is proposed to be built approximately 23 km upstream from Indrapuri Barrage.
The investment could provide a major boost to pilgrimage tourism and the local visitor economy, creating new opportunities for hotels, tour operators, transport providers and other tourism businesses. Improved infrastructure around Gaya is also expected to enhance the overall visitor experience and support the region’s long-term tourism growth.
Alongside these approvals given for almost 17 projects, officials endorsed a memorandum of understanding with the Civil Aviation Ministry and Airports Authority of India to expand regional connectivity under the Modified UDAN Scheme and approved the Bihar State Civil Aviation Cadre Recruitment Rules 2026.
