Uttar Pradesh greenlights INR 31.80 cr tourism roadmap for Kanpur Division

The proposals covered 25 Tourism Department for the 2026-27 action plan, spread across six districts, including Kanpur Nagar (7), Etawah (5), Kanpur Dehat (5), Kannauj (3), Farrukhabad (3) and Auraiya (2).
Uttar Pradesh Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh on July 27, 2026, has approved an proposed INR 31.80 crore action plan for the 2026-27 fiscal year. The proposals were aimed at strengthening tourism, cultural infrastructure and heritage conservation across Kanpur division, with a focus on developing religious destinations, improving visitor amenities and preserving the region's cultural identity.
The review covered 25 Tourism Department proposals for the 2026-27 action plan. The proposals are spread across six districts, including Kanpur Nagar (7), Etawah (5), Kanpur Dehat (5), Kannauj (3), Farrukhabad (3) and Auraiya (2).
Instructing officials during the meeting, Singh said, “Tourism projects should enhance visitor experience while preserving the unique heritage and cultural identity of every destination. Quality, timely execution and close coordination with public representatives must guide every project. All ongoing projects with an estimated cost of up to INR 1 crore must be completed by November while ensuring the highest standards of quality."
The Tourism Department proposals include development works at several prominent religious and heritage sites across the division. In Etawah, proposals include tourism development of Gurudwara Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib, Shri Maa Sati Temple and Balventeshwar Mahadev Temple. Auraiya has proposals for the Ram Janaki Temple and establishment of a District Tourism Office at Dibiyapur.
In Kannauj, proposals include tourism development of the Ancient Shankar Temple at Chhibramau, Siddhapeeth Ancient Doleshwar Nath Shiv Temple at Tirwa and Maa Sheetla Devi Temple in Kannauj. Kanpur Dehat has proposals for Shri Hanuman Dham Temple at Rasulabad, Maa Parhul Devi Temple at Akbarpur-Raniya and Shiv Bageshwar Temple at Sikandra, among other religious sites.
The highest number of proposals have been taken up in Kanpur Nagar, where development works have been proposed at Jwala Devi Temple in Bithoor, Shankhula Devi Temple in Bilhaur, Bhuteshwar Mahadev Temple in Kalyanpur and Maa Phulmati Temple in Ghatampur, along with other important religious destinations.
In Farrukhabad, proposals include tourism development of the Ancient Shiv Temple at Kayamganj, Shri Sitaram Thakurdwara Temple at Amritpur and Shri Ram Janaki Temple at Bhojpur, aimed at strengthening pilgrimage infrastructure and visitor facilities.
The Culture Department placed three proposals before the Minister, including beautification and redevelopment of the Ramlila Ground at Kamalganj Nagar Panchayat and establishment of a Museum in Farrukhabad, along with a Bal Museum in Kannauj to promote the region's cultural heritage and educational tourism.
The meeting also reviewed ongoing Culture Department projects, including installation of a tin shed at the Ramlila Ground in Azad Nagar, Farrukhabad, at an estimated cost of INR 79.73 lakh, and construction of an auditorium in Auraiya at an estimated cost of INR 14.10 crore.
To promote nature-based tourism and encourage sustainable visitor experiences, the meeting also reviewed an Eco Tourism Board proposal for the development of eco-tourism facilities near the Dafarpur Wetland in Farrukhabad, with an estimated cost of around INR 4 crore. The proposed project includes a Nature Interpretation Centre, a watchtower, a yoga pavilion, gazebos, and other visitor amenities to enhance the area's ecological and recreational appeal.
The Minister also reviewed the progress of Tourism Department projects sanctioned during 2024-25 and 2025-26. He directed district officials to undertake regular field inspections and instructed executing agencies to ensure that all ongoing works are completed within the stipulated timelines.
The Kanpur division review is part of the Uttar Pradesh Government's ongoing assessment of tourism, culture and eco-tourism projects across all 18 divisions to strengthen heritage conservation, expand visitor infrastructure and promote sustainable tourism.
