India is among Seychelles' top 10 source markets and Prime Minister's visit is expected to inspire more Indian travellers to explore the island nation.
At the invitation of the President of Seychelles, Dr. Patrick Herminie, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the Independence of Seychelles as the Guest of Honour.
The Independence Day celebrations coincide with the marking of 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Seychelles. To commemorate these special occasions, contingents of Indian armed forces participated in the national parade held to mark the golden jubilee of the Independence of Seychelles. The Indian contingent comprised personnel from the Assam Rifles, the Indian Navy and an Indian Navy Marching Band, reflecting the longstanding defence partnership between the two countries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Seychelles is expected to further strengthen tourism and cultural ties between the two countries, with Indian arrivals likely to receive an additional boost, according to online reports.
Speaking to ANI, Sylvanne Lydie Lemiel, Leader of Government Business in the National Assembly of Seychelles, described India as a longstanding and valued partner, adding that Prime Minister Modi's presence during the country's 50th anniversary celebrations holds special significance.
Lemiel said Seychelles looks forward to expanding cooperation with India across several sectors, including climate resilience, the blue economy, renewable energy, digital transformation and innovation. She also welcomed India's Mahasagar vision, noting that its focus on mutual and holistic growth aligns closely with Seychelles' own development priorities.
Highlighting the tourism relationship, she said India is already among Seychelles' top 10 source markets and expressed optimism that the Prime Minister's visit would inspire more Indian travellers to explore the island nation.
She also expressed hope for stronger collaboration in the creative industries, particularly cinema. Noting that several Bollywood productions have already been filmed in Seychelles, Lemiel said she expects future partnerships in the film sector to further enhance cultural engagement and destination visibility.
