Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated and dedicated 23 development projects to the nation and laid the foundation stone for eight additional initiatives in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, with a combined investment of INR 426.71 crore. The projects are aimed at strengthening tourism infrastructure, improving connectivity and enhancing the overall visitor experience in the Statue of Unity region.
Of the total investment, completed projects account for INR 307.83 crore, while the eight newly announced projects involve an estimated expenditure of INR 118.88 crore. The initiatives span hospitality, transport, environmental management, public amenities and the development of new tourism attractions.
According to online reports, among the key additions is an IRCTC hotel, which is expected to augment accommodation capacity in Ekta Nagar and cater to the growing number of visitors to the Statue of Unity. The Ekta Cruise will further expected to diversify the visitor experience by introducing another sightseeing option along the Narmada.
Other completed developments include integrated facilities at the Cactus and Butterfly Garden, developed at a cost of INR 5.79 crore, improvements to Narmada Ghat, travelators, electric buses, road upgrades and enhanced facade illumination. Water and sewage treatment facilities have also featured among the infrastructure improvements.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Ekta Prakash Parv heritage display, exterior illumination across the Statue of Unity campus and an upgraded Unity Glow Garden. These additions are expected to strengthen the area's evening tourism and recreational offerings.
Transport infrastructure and civic facilities form a significant part of the development programme. The Gora-Bhandra Road project, estimated at INR 59.32 crore, is among the major initiatives intended to improve road connectivity in the region. An integrated zero-waste smart solid waste management facility is another key component of the proposed infrastructure development.
The eight projects receiving foundation stones also include the Khalwani Bridge, involving an investment of INR 7.72 crore, Khalwani Eco-Tourism development at INR 5.15 crore, and the Cactus and Butterfly Garden project.
Further initiatives comprise the widening of Vaghadia Road and the construction of a disaster control room for the Sardar Sarovar Dam, alongside other infrastructure and visitor-oriented developments.
By combining new attractions and hospitality infrastructure with improved transport connectivity, waste management and essential civic services, the development programme seeks to strengthen the region's capacity to accommodate visitors while enhancing the overall tourism experience.
