Maharashtra Tourism launches INR 1 cr memorial project at Pratapgad Fort

Grand memorial of Veer Jivaji Mahale to be built at the foothills of the fort

The Maharashtra State Government has announced the development of a memorial dedicated to Veer Jivaji Mahale at the foothills of the historic Pratapgad Fort. With an initial phase investment of INR 1 crore, the project is designed to enhance the state’s “Shivkalin” (Shivaji-era) heritage tourism circuit, providing a new focal point for cultural and historical itineraries. Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai made this announcement while presenting a statement in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.

The project was sanctioned following collaborative discussions between Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The memorial will be situated on land under the Tourism Department, with plans for an aesthetically designed landmark that honours the legacy of Jivaji Mahale, a pivotal figure in the history of Hindavi Swarajya.

Pratapgad Fort remains one of the state’s highest-traffic heritage sites, drawing lakhs of domestic and international visitors annually, particularly during the Shiv Pratap Din celebrations each November. For the travel trade, this infrastructure development represents a strategic upgrade to an existing key destination.

Minister Desai expressed confidence that the memorial would provide a major boost to Shivkalin heritage tourism at Pratapgad. It will further strengthen Pratapgad's identity on Maharashtra's tourism map and emerge as another major attraction for visitors from across India and the world.
