K’taka to support Jharkhand’s eco-tourism push; pact likely soon: Minister George

The Jharkhand delegation studied Karnataka's approach to eco-tourism, sustainable tourism and destination development, including tourism models aimed at generating local employment and economic activity.
Karnataka will reportedly share its expertise in eco-tourism and sustainable tourism with Jharkhand, as the two states move toward a formal agreement for knowledge-sharing and project guidance, state Tourism Minister K J George.
George made the remarks after meeting a delegation from Jharkhand led by Tourism Minister Sudivya Kumar.
The Jharkhand delegation studied Karnataka's approach to eco-tourism, sustainable tourism and destination development, including tourism models aimed at generating local employment and economic activity.
The delegation expressed interest in adapting relevant elements of Karnataka's tourism model to Jharkhand, the tourism department said in a release.
Under the proposed collaboration, the Karnataka Tourism Department will share its experience in project planning, selection of suitable eco-tourism models, implementation strategies and sustainable tourism practices. "This is encouraging to see other states studying our experience and looking to adopt suitable elements of our model.
Karnataka is ready to share its expertise and best practices to support eco-tourism development in Jharkhand," George said. He said tourism growth should go hand in hand with environmental conservation, local employment and sustainable economic development.
Jharkhand Tourism Minister Sudivya Kumar said Karnataka's initiatives in eco tourism and sustainable tourism offered valuable lessons for his state.
"We would like to study Karnataka's experience and best practices and identify models that can be adapted to Jharkhand's ecological and tourism potential. We intend to formalise this cooperation with Karnataka shortly and take the next steps forward," Kumar said.
