Vinai Kumar Saxena, Ladakh Lieutenant Governor
The new status will come into effect from June 1, 2026.
According to a post on X, shared by Vinai Kumar Saxena, Ladakh Lieutenant Governor, hotels and guest houses will now be granted industry status registered with the Union Territory’s Tourism Department.
The hospitality establishments covered under the initiative will now become eligible for a range of benefits and support mechanisms similar to other recognised industries operating in the region. The new status will come into effect from June 1, 2026.
Reports stated that the decision is expected to provide operational relief to hotels and guest houses by allowing them to access electricity and water tariffs under industrial rates, which are comparatively lower than the commercial tariffs currently applicable to the sector.
