Japan raises single-entry visa fee from JPY 3,000 to JPY 15,000 effective July 1

The country reportedly welcomed a record 42.7 million international visitors last year.

Japan will significantly increase visa fees for foreign nationals from July 1, introducing its first major revision to visa charges in nearly five decades.

According to online reports, under the revised fee structure, the cost of a single-entry visa will rise from JPY 3,000 to JPY 15,000, representing a five-fold increase. In Indian currency, the fee will increase from approximately INR 1,750 to INR 8,752. Meanwhile, fees for multiple-entry visas will also climb sharply, from JPY 6,000 to JPY 30,000.

The move comes as Japan continues to witness strong growth in inbound tourism following the post-pandemic recovery. The country reportedly welcomed a record 42.7 million international visitors last year.

According to the Japanese government, the revised fee structure is intended to support enhancements to visa processing and immigration services. The additional revenue also said to contribute to wider administrative reforms aimed at improving efficiency, reducing processing bottlenecks and creating a more responsive system for foreign nationals.

The updated fee structure is expected to take effect nationwide from July 1, impacting foreign nationals applying for visas and various residency-related services in Japan.
