West Bengal plans INR 100 Cr first-phase revamp of Mirik; to position as a world-class destination

The West Bengal Government is planning a major tourism infrastructure upgrade for Mirik, with an estimated investment of around INR 100 crore in the first phase of a comprehensive development project aimed at positioning the hill town as a world-class tourism destination.
The proposed initiative is expected to focus on upgrading tourism infrastructure, including the beautification of the iconic Mirik Lake, while introducing a range of new adventure and recreational experiences to enhance the destination's appeal.
According to the reports, West Bengal Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh said that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) has already been prepared. The project is expected to commence once it receives financial approval and funding support from the Central Government. He added that following the completion of the first phase, subsequent phases involving larger investments are planned to further transform Mirik.
