Assam welcomed over 6 Cr tourists in last 10 years: Tourism Minister

Over six crore tourists, including 2.4 lakh foreign visitors, visited Assam in the last 10 years, the state Assembly was informed. Replying to a query, Tourism Minister Ajanta Neog said a total of 6,04,85,638 visitors toured Assam from 2016-17 to 2025-26. Out of them, 2,41,192 were foreign tourists from different countries of the world, she added.

According to the minister, 2022–23 emerged as the strongest year for tourism after the pandemic, with 98,31,141 visitors, including 18,946 foreign travellers, choosing Assam. In contrast, tourism activity dipped sharply during 2020–21, when pandemic-related restrictions reduced arrivals to 13,52,037, of whom only 347 were international visitors. 

Neog noted that overseas visitors have arrived from a diverse range of markets, including the United Kingdom, France, the UAE, Australia, the United States, Switzerland, Nepal, Bangladesh, Canada, Sri Lanka, Japan, Spain, Belgium and Israel.
