Facing challenges such as declining auction returns, unpredictable climate conditions and evolving consumer beverage choices, an Assam-based tea estate is embracing immersive tourism experiences to redefine how consumers engage with tea.
According to online reports, in a move aimed at transforming tea from an everyday household drink into a deeper cultural and sensory experience, Amchong Tea Estate has introduced “Amchong Leaf”, said to be India’s first dedicated tea experience hub.
The centre aims to offer visitors an opportunity to explore tea beyond the cup through guided walks across the estate, behind-the-scenes factory tours, curated tea-tasting experiences, interactive sessions with tea workers involved in the production process, and audio-visual storytelling presentations focused on tea cultivation and manufacturing.
The initiative reportedly arrives at a crucial phase for India’s tea sector, which continues to grapple with rising production expenses, weather-related uncertainties and subdued auction price growth, even as tea exports touched record highs in 2025.
Industry stakeholders believe experiential tea tourism could help strengthen consumer awareness, create premium brand value and build a more emotional connection between tea drinkers and the origins of the beverage.
