AirAsia resumes Jakarta operations following volcanic disruption

Following the reopening of Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on September 6, 2026, scheduled services to and from the capital have largely normalised.
AirAsia has resumed operations to and from the affected destinations following the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau in Indonesia’s Sunda Strait, which caused volcanic ash clouds and posed a significant threat to safe aircraft operations in the vicinity of the volcanic clouds.
Following the reopening of Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) on September 6, 2026, scheduled services to and from the capital have largely normalised, except for two flights on September 8, 2026, including QZ178: Jakarta (CGK) - Bandar Lampung (TKG) and QZ179: Bandar Lampung (TKG) - Jakarta (CGK)
The airline has reportedly contacted impacted passengers regarding rebooking options and recovery schedules. While operations are stabilising, the situational advisory remains fluid due to potential volcanic activity.
