Uzbekistan is looking to strengthen its tourism partnership with China through greater collaboration on infrastructure development, investment and technical expertise following high-level discussions between tourism officials from both countries.
Abdulaziz Akkulov, Chairman of Uzbekistan's Tourism Committee, held talks with Ji Xiaodong, Chairman of the Tourism Chamber of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, to identify new areas of cooperation aimed at accelerating tourism sector growth.
The meeting focused on expanding tourism infrastructure, with particular attention given to the development of modern cable car systems in Uzbekistan's mountainous regions. The two sides also explored the possibility of engaging Chinese specialists, who bring significant experience in executing similar projects, to support these initiatives.
Beyond infrastructure, discussions covered broader collaboration in destination planning and project implementation. Both delegations reviewed opportunities for Chinese experts to contribute to the Tourism Committee's project offices, assist in preparing master plans for tourism destinations, strengthen investment project management and facilitate the adoption of digital technologies such as BIM and GIS.
The talks also highlighted the importance of aligning tourism projects with international standards through technical assessments and global best practices.
As part of the outcome, Uzbekistan and China agreed to jointly develop training and capacity-building programmes for project office personnel. The initiatives will focus on modern project management, tourism infrastructure development, investment attraction and the application of international expertise to support the country's long-term tourism ambitions.
