Thailand eyes a THB 2.45 billion tourism boost package aimed at encouraging domestic travel, supporting airlines and attracting more international visitors, according to online reports. The proposed package comprises three key initiatives, including hotel subsidies for domestic travellers, discounted domestic airfares and aid for international flights.
Under the proposed 'Thai Teaw Thai Plus' scheme, the government plans to subsidise 50% of hotel accommodation costs, offering up to 500,000 benefits initially. Eligible travellers would be able to claim 5 subsidies, support capped at THB 3,000 per booking.
The initiative also includes THB 500 digital coupons, which can be redeemed at participating restaurants, tourist attractions and local businesses.
To further encourage domestic travel, the package proposes discounts on 400,000 domestic airline seats, with travellers receiving fare reductions of THB 400 or THB 600, depending on the destination.
The government is also considering financial support for charter flights alongside joint marketing campaigns with airlines to stimulate overseas arrivals. According to online reports, the combined measures are projected to generate around THB 56 billion in economic activity.
The stimulus package is currently awaiting approval from Thailand's Cabinet and other relevant government authorities before it can be rolled out. Reports added that the government has yet to confirm whether the programme will be financed under the 2026 or 2027 national budget.
