Srinagar airport to be shut from Oct 1, 2026, for 15 days

This scheduled closure, for runway maintenance, has raising alarm bells within tourism industry, as the timeline coincides with the peak Durga Puja holiday season, potentially delivering a massive setback to the sector.

The Srinagar International Airport has announced that it will suspend all flight operations for a 15-days period from October 1, 2026, for crucial runway maintenance. This scheduled closure has raising alarm bells within tourism industry, as the timeline coincides with the peak Durga Puja holiday season, potentially delivering a massive setback to the sector.

According to airport officials, a phased maintenance schedule will begin ahead of the total shutdown and starting from next month, air services will be closed for two days every week, culminating in the full 15-day closure from October 1-15, 2026.

These essential safety repairs have already impacted travel; following a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Indian Air Force, flight restrictions have been in place since April 6, 2026. While the airport previously handled 25-30 daily flights, operations are currently limited to 18 landings per day during the restricted window of 8 am to 5 pm.
