redBus has recorded surge in intercity bus travel across Maharashtra and Goa as people prepare for the summer holiday season. Data from the redBus platform indicates that bus bookings in Maharashtra and Goa are projected to grow by 21% during the summer travel window. The analysis compares projected bookings made between May 1-17, 2026, with the corresponding period last year (May 1-17, 2025).
This surge reflects a combination of early summer travel triggered by short leisure breaks, visits to family and friends, and growing demand for flexible travel across seasonal destinations. Recent trends also indicate a rising preference for shorter, more frequent trips, as travellers advance their holiday plans to cooler hill destinations.
As per bookings on the redBus platform, the key travel projections for top routes by traffic for Intra-region include Pune-Nagpur, Nagpur-Pune, Pune-Mumbai, Pune-Goa, and Goa-Pune; and for Inter-region include Pune-Hyderabad, Pune- Indore, Mumbai-Hyderabad, Mumbai-Indore, and Pune-Bangalore.
Key projections for top boarding points by traffic include Sangamwadi (Pune), Wakad (Pune), Swargate (Pune), Ashirwad Theatre (Ponda), Borivali East (Mumbai), and Nigdi (Pune).
According to the redBus’s data, 85% of bookings are for AC buses, indicating a strong preference for comfortable travel options when planned in advance, while the remaining are for non-AC buses. 89% of travellers have opted for sleeper buses, while the rest chose seater services, highlighting the continued popularity of convenient overnight journeys during the holiday season.
49% of travellers from Maharashtra and Goa fall within the 18–30 age group, reflecting strong participation from younger travellers. Male travellers account for 66% of the total, of whom 49% are young travellers (18-30). Female travellers make up 34% of total bookings, of whom 50% are young travellers (aged 18–30).
49% of travellers begin their journeys from the metro city of Mumbai (Tier 1), while 21% depart from (Tier 2) non-metro cities and towns and 30% from (Tier 3) towns and villages, underscoring strong metro demand alongside steady momentum in the non-metro market.
