Long weekend bookings have grown 40% year-on-year, repeat international travellers have nearly doubled, and over half of travellers are now opting for customised itineraries over fixed packages. The overseas long weekend, it seems, is fast becoming a habit, not a splurge, as travellers get increasingly strategic about squeezing the most out of the least number of leave days.
According to a recent article, Indian travellers are increasingly moving towards shorter, more spontaneous international getaways, with 3-4 day trips, long weekends and impulsive departures becoming part of a new travel rhythm. Short-haul destinations are seeing growing traction too, with Indian travellers increasingly opting for 3-4 night stays and repeat visits to destinations like the Maldives.

The average long weekender now spends INR 80,000-INR 1 lakh per trip, up from INR 70,000-INR 80,000 last year, because a good flight and a better room are worth the extra leave-day guilt. Most travellers lock in plans 15-30 days out, proving the long weekend is plotted, without panicked. Bengaluru, Chennai and Delhi are doing the most globetrotting, with the 26-31 crowd leading the charge. Holi 2026 clocked over 600 bookings. Wildlife, food, wellness and culture are the new sightseeing.
