The UK’s visa system has been digitalised now. The traditional physical visa sticker has been replaced by a secure digital record, accessible at no additional charge.
More than 500,000 visas were granted to Indian nationals travelling to the United Kingdom in the year ending March 2026, reflecting the strong and enduring ties between India and the UK. Looking ahead, VisitBritain forecasts almost one million visits (959,000) from India to the UK by 2030, with visitor spending expected to reach £1.5 billion.
Travelling from India to the UK continues to be convenient, with strong air connectivity between the two countries. British Airways introduced new and additional routes in 2026, and an average of 178 weekly flights now operate between India and the UK, up from 155 weekly flights in 2025.
As the UK’s visa system is now fully digital, customers granted a UK visa will receive an eVisa instead of a physical visa vignette (sticker) in their passport. There is no charge to access an eVisa.
To apply for the UK visa online via GOV.UK biometrics and verifying identy at a Visa Application centre are required. Following a successful visa decision, visit gov.uk/evisa to create UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account and complete the required online steps. Once account has been created, sign in and confirm identity using the UK-Immigration: ID-Check app, which will link the account to eVisa.
When the eVisa is ready, email notification will be received. Before travelling, it is essential to check that all details are correct and that the current passport or travel document is linked to your UKVI account. Incorrect details may result in delays at the UK border or prevent your airline from allowing you to board.
Most UK visit visa applications are processed within three weeks, so travellers are encouraged to apply in advance of their intended travel date. People travelling with family members will need their own individual UKVI account to access their eVisa.
It has been advised to travellers to remain vigilant against visa scams and fraudulent communications. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) will never ask to make payments or provide sensitive personal information through unsolicited emails, text messages, or social media.
