MapmyIndia offers multi-lingual & localised map coverage of India

MapmyIndia, India’s GPS navigation and location apps for consumers and enterprise, recently announced the launch of multi-lingual and localised maps – version 8.1 maps of India. These feature voice guidance in nine regional Indian languages other than English. For 10 Indian cities the map text is in Hindi.

The map version 8.1 offers expanded coverage of over 2 million kilometers road network with advanced information like multiple names, road classification one-ways, turn restrictions, divider, service lanes, round-abouts, flyovers, tolls, slip roads, ramps and much more.

“India is a multi lingual country, here the dialect if not the language changes every few kilometers. We have realised that language is one of the key factors that encourage adoption after accuracy and coverage. Our vision is to reach out to each and every Indian with the benefits of GPS navigation. We are engaging the user on every platform, in her preferred language and with the best of GPS and LBS technology,” said Rakesh Verma, Managing Director, MapmyIndia.

The new version covers across India 6028 cities at street level with house address level data for 52 cities and 3D and 2D landmarks in 88 cities. These maps offer the users India’s most comprehensive, exhaustive, detailed and updated coverage with – 10.54 million unique destinations (Points of Interests); 2.0 million road kilometers; 600,000 villages;66 cities with 3D & 2D landmarks. It also includes best-in-class advanced and localised navigation and driver assistance features such as extended lane guidance, junction views, sign-posts, live traffic, city guides and rich points of interest, regional voice guidance and regional maps.

The company has also recently launched a suit of mobile apps that empowers user with tools like navigation, tracking and social media interface. Many of these apps are free for download and available across leading mobile platforms – Blackberry, Windows, Android and iOS. With smartphone prices coming down, their growth has been phenomenal. MapmyIndia’s applications are very popular with smartphone users, with apps like MapmyIndia Sygic navigation being the top grossing app on iTunes India store and MapmyIndia Maps is attracting more iPhone/iPad users in India than Google.
