Malaysia Airlines expands China network adding Shenzhen & Changsha routes
Time for Changsha
Malaysia Airlines now serves nine gateways across China, including Beijing (PKX), Shanghai (PVG), Guangzhou (CAN), Xiamen (XMN), Hong Kong (HKG), Taipei (TPE), and Chengdu (TFU), further strengthening its regional network.
Malaysia Airlines has officially charted a stronger course into China with the launch of new direct services from Kuala Lumpur to Shenzhen (SZX) and Changsha (CSX). This strategic expansion reflects the surging demand for travel between both nations – driven by increasingly robust economic partnerships and a shared appetite for leisure and business travel, allowing the national carrier to effectively tap into a broader, more diversified segment of China, its second largest international market by number of destinations.
The expansion officially commenced with the inaugural flight MH522 to Shenzhen departing from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) Terminal 1 on July 1, 2026, with the return service flight MH523 departing to Kuala Lumpur on July 2, 2026.
This was followed by the launch of services to Changsha on July 8 2026, with the inaugural flight MH520 departing Kuala Lumpur. The return service flight MH521 departed from Changsha on July 9 2026. Both routes operate with a frequency of up to seven weekly flights utilising the Boeing 737-8 aircraft.
Bryan Foong, Chief Executive Officer of Airline Business from Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), said, “The launch of our services to Shenzhen and Changsha marks a proud milestone in our continuous efforts to expand our network across China. By connecting Kuala Lumpur to these high-growth regional hubs, we are offering travellers greater convenience and flexibility while supporting stronger business, tourism and people-to-people ties between our two countries. As we welcome more visitors under the Visit Malaysia 2026 banner, this expansion also brings us closer to our vision of positioning Kuala Lumpur as a premier gateway to Asia and beyond.”
