The Maharashtra government is reportedly working to set up district-level Destination Management Organisations under the Tourism Department to strengthen tourism governance and support its ambition of positioning the state as a leading travel destination, an official said on Wednesday.
DMOs are being set up in six pilot destinations, including Chandrapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Sindhudurg, Nashik, and Pune, as well as Dharashiv and Solapur, under the World Bank-funded MahaSTRIDE programme, shared Additional Chief Secretary for Tourism, Sanjay Khandare.
“Maharashtra Tourism is implementing the initiative, with the Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA) acting as the programme management unit,” he said.
