Lion Air enhances regional connectivity with new Banjarmasin – Kuala Lumpur international service

The new service is positioned to strengthen trade and investment ties between South Kalimantan and Malaysia.

Lion Air has expanded its international footprint in Indonesia with the launch of a direct service between Syamsuddin Noor International Airport (BDJ) in Banjarmasin and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). Commencing June 29, 2026, the route marks the carrier's first international operation directly serving the Kalimantan region.

The new service is positioned to strengthen trade and investment ties between South Kalimantan and Malaysia. By providing a direct link to a major Southeast Asian hub, the route facilitates increased business mobility, supporting export-import activities and enabling small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) to better access international markets.

Operating twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays, the flight provides Kalimantan-based travelers with seamless connectivity to over 40 destinations via Kuala Lumpur. Key network links include Middle East (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Tashkent, Uzbekistan), China (Shanghai, Guangzhou, Kunming, Chengdu, Xiamen, Changsha, Zhengzhou, and Haikou), East Asia (Tokyo, Japan; Osaka, Japan; Taipei, Taiwan; and Hong Kong), South Asia (Delhi, India; Mumbai, India; Bengaluru, India; Kochi, India; Karachi, Pakistan; Colombo, Sri Lanka; and Malé, Maldives), Southeast Asia (Hanoi, Vietnam; Da Nang, Vietnam; Phuket, Thailand; and Dili, Timor-Leste) and Australia (Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane), as well as several points within Malaysia (Johor Bahru, Kota Bharu, Tawau, Miri, Sibu, and Bintulu) and Indonesia (Medan, Padang, Pekanbaru, and Batam).

Lion Air utilises Boeing 737-800NG and 737-900ER aircraft for this route, offering configurations of 180 and 215 economy class seats, respectively. The introduction of this international service is expected to drive both inbound tourism and corporate travel demand throughout the Kalimantan provinces.
