He noted that the introduction of online registration, RFID and GPS-based tracking systems, extensive camera surveillance along the pilgrimage routes, digital information platforms and modern communication technologies has strengthened pilgrim safety and improved operational transparency.
The annual Amarnath Yatra is on course to become a major global spiritual tourism destination in the coming years, according to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who said sustained investments in infrastructure, technology and pilgrim facilities have significantly enhanced the pilgrimage experience over the past five years.
According to online reports, addressing preparations for the annual Yatra, Sinha said a series of transformative initiatives have made the pilgrimage safer, more accessible and technologically advanced, while preserving its spiritual significance.
He noted that the introduction of online registration, RFID and GPS-based tracking systems, extensive camera surveillance along the pilgrimage routes, digital information platforms and modern communication technologies has strengthened pilgrim safety and improved operational transparency.
The Lieutenant Governor further highlighted that both the traditional pilgrimage routes have undergone substantial upgrades over the last two to three years. The tracks have been widened, illuminated for night movement and supported with ambulances stationed at designated locations to improve emergency response and overall convenience for devotees.
Emphasising the Yatra's wider economic significance, Sinha said the annual pilgrimage serves as a key driver of regional livelihoods, supporting thousands of families associated with tourism and allied sectors. Pony operators, shopkeepers, artisans, transport providers and hoteliers are among those who benefit directly or indirectly from the influx of pilgrims each year.
He added that beyond its religious importance, the Amarnath Yatra continues to contribute to regional development by generating employment opportunities and encouraging infrastructure growth across the region.
