Booking.com Releases Travel Trends of Indian Travelers for Diwali 2023

According to Booking.com, during the approaching festive celebrations, domestic destinations such as Udaipur, Puri and Goa continue to be popular. International vacations to Dubai, Makkah and Bangkok have also emerged as favourites among many Indian travellers.

As the festive season approaches, there is a growing enthusiasm for travel and Indians are eager to visit both domestic and foreign destinations. Booking.com shares travel insights on where Indians are travelling for the upcoming festive season.

Booking.com search data showcases that while metropolises like New Delhi and Mumbai continue to be on the travel list, leisure destinations like Udaipur, Puri, Goa, Jaipur and Munnar are some of the top searched domestic destinations for Indians travelling within India during the festive season. While hotels and resorts continue to be popular accommodations during this period, travellers are also exploring alternative accommodations offering distinctive experiences, such as homestays, villas and apartments that cater to their specific travel needs.

Santosh Kumar, Country Manager for India, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Indonesia at Booking.com said, “As we gear up for the festive season, we are witnessing an increase in searches for both domestic and international destinations and are expecting these numbers to grow as we move closer to Diwali.  Travellers are embracing the festive period and they are looking to rejuvenate themselves and reconnect with their loved ones.”

Key findings of the report are:

● Top searched leisure destination by Indians travelling domestically from 10 November 2023 – 14 November 2023: Udaipur, Puri, Goa, Jaipur, Munnar, Darjeeling, Mahabaleshwar, Varanasi, Puducherry, Lonavala

● Most sought-after destinations for Indians travelling internationally from 10 November 2023 – 14 November 2023: Dubai (UAE), Singapore, Makkah (Saudi Arabia), Bangkok (Thailand), London (UK), Paris (France), Hong Kong, Istanbul (Turkey), Tokyo (Japan), Hanoi (Vietnam)

● Top searched accommodation types by Indian travellers travelling within India from 10 November 2023 – 14 November 2023: hotels, resorts, homestays, villas and apartment.
