Assam boosts ease of doing business in tourism with single-window registration & auto-renewals

The rules are expected to simplify regulatory protocols, reduce delays and attract more investment in tourism infrastructure.

During a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday, the Assam government approved a series of measures aimed at boosting tourism, easing business regulations, and strengthening public welfare initiatives across the state.

The Cabinet cleared the Assam Tourism Accommodation (Development & Registration) Rules, 2026, introducing a single-window registration system for hotels, resorts, guest houses, homestays, service apartments, tented accommodations, and heritage properties. The rules also provide for automatic renewal of registrations every three years, a move expected to simplify compliance and encourage investment in the tourism sector.

In another key decision, the Cabinet approved the automatic conversion of agricultural land for setting up micro enterprises, khadi units, and solar power projects, eliminating the need for DC approval and reducing procedural hurdles for investors.

According to online reports, the Minister said the rules are designed to simplify regulatory protocols, reduce delays and attract more investment in tourism infrastructure.

The decisions, as per reports, reflect the government’s broader focus on improving ease of doing business, accelerating infrastructure development and creating a more investment-friendly environment. Observers noted on X, that these policy reforms are seen as steps towards laying the foundation for a more prosperous and self-reliant Assam, while also supporting long-term growth in tourism.
