Arunachal Pradesh is taking a step towards expanding its adventure tourism offerings with the launch of Operation Arunoday, a civil-military initiative aimed at opening a new trekking route from Thingbu Village to Bajrang Peak (5,583 metres) in the state's frontier region.
In his recent post on X, Chief Minister Pema Khandu shared to have flagged off the expedition, which is being jointly undertaken by the Indian Army and the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS).
Sharing the development, Khandu said the initiative reflects the state's vision of promoting responsible access to its border regions while preserving their ecological and strategic importance. He noted that the future of Arunachal's frontier lies not only in protecting these landscapes but also in enabling people to experience them in a sustainable and responsible manner.
According to the Chief Minister, the new trekking route is expected to unlock the adventure tourism potential of the region, generate livelihood opportunities for local communities and bring greater visibility to Arunachal Pradesh's frontier destinations.
The expedition marks the beginning of efforts to establish the Thingbu Village–Bajrang Peak trail as a new trekking circuit, combining adventure tourism with community participation and responsible destination development.
Khandu extended his best wishes to the expedition team for a safe and successful mission, expressing confidence that the initiative would contribute to strengthening Arunachal Pradesh's position as an emerging adventure tourism destination.
