India a strategic source market for Ajman; focus on deepening B2B engagement
Mahmood Khaleel Alhashmi
Ajman is diversifying its approach to rebuilding traveller confidence in key source markets such as India, while recognising the role of greater GCC cooperation in creating a more integrated tourism ecosystem.
Mahmood Khaleel Alhashmi, Director General of Ajman Department of Tourism, Culture & Media, shares with T3, the emirate’s tourism priorities for the next five years.
Building resilience through diversification
According to Alhashmi, recent geopolitical developments have sharpened traveller focus on confidence, connectivity, accessibility and value, while encouraging destinations to build greater resilience into their strategies. For Ajman, this reinforces a long-term approach centred on sustainable growth, market diversification and a distinctive visitor proposition.
Guided by Ajman Vision 2030, Ajman’s direction over the next five years is to strengthen the emirate’s position as an accessible, well-rounded destination where tourism, culture and heritage contribute to quality of life and economic development, stated Alhashmi.
Alhashmi further added, “We will continue to broaden experiences across leisure, nature, family tourism, hospitality and business events, while deepening partnerships with international travel trade and expanding engagement across priority source markets. This approach strengthens the resilience of Ajman’s tourism ecosystem and supports sustained demand.”
India remains a strategic source market
Alhashmi shared that traveller confidence is built through consistent engagement, trusted partnerships and a clear destination proposition. According to him, India remains a strategic source market for Ajman, and the emirate’s focus is on deepening B2B engagement with travel agents, tour operators and destination partners, while showcasing the value, accessibility and breadth of experiences available across the emirate.
“Our approach is centred on positioning Ajman as a compact, accessible destination offering a diverse mix of beaches and leisure, Emirati culture and heritage, nature, family experiences, hospitality, and MICE opportunities,” Alhashmi mentioned.
A key initiative is Ajman’s India Roadshow, taking place from August 30 to September 4, 2026 across Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai. This is expected to create direct opportunities to strengthen trade relationships, develop new partnerships and support destination packaging.
Alhashmi further added, that more broadly, accessibility and connectivity remain central to destination choice, and Ajman continues to work closely with the travel trade to make the emirate easier to understand, package and integrate into wider UAE and GCC itineraries.
GCC cooperation boosting multi-destination travel
“The GCC has a significant opportunity to develop a more connected tourism ecosystem through integrated itineraries, stronger aviation connectivity and coordinated destination promotion,” Alhashmi noted. For long-haul markets such as India, a seamless multi-destination journey can extend the length of stay, broaden visitor experiences and strengthen the region’s overall competitiveness.
“Ajman can contribute a complementary dimension to this proposition. Its combination of beaches, Emirati culture and heritage, nature, family experiences and hospitality enriches wider UAE and GCC itineraries,” Alhashmi added.
Closer collaboration across tourism authorities and the travel trade can also support joint promotion, integrated packaging and more seamless visitor journeys. He concluded by sharing, “For Ajman, regional collaboration strengthens both the emirate’s international reach and the GCC’s collective appeal as a diverse, future-ready tourism region.”
