Chief Minister Sarma has also indicated plans to expand the network to Vietnam.
Air India will launch the direct flight services from Guwahati to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, scheduled to begin on August 4, 2026. Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced this strategic expansion through post on X and shared that it marks a significant milestone in positioning Guwahati as a pivotal travel and transit hub for Southeast Asia.
The new non-stop services are set to strengthen Guwahati Airport’s international footprint, bringing its connectivity to four key global markets: the UAE, Thailand, Singapore, and Bhutan. This development follows the recent lifting of travel advisories by EU member states for Assam, signalling growing international confidence in the region’s tourism and business potential.
Chief Minister Sarma has also indicated plans to expand the network to Vietnam, reinforcing the state’s commitment to building robust direct links with emerging travel corridors. “My next goal is to commence direct services to Vietnam, and I will keep you posted on that,” he shared. “This is a big fillip in our efforts to position Guwahati as a major travel and transit hub for Southeast Asia.”
With the launch of these Gulf routes, the state government aims to further catalyse economic activity and regional tourism.
