Rajnish Kumar, Group Co-CEO, Ixigo said, “This Holi season, we are seeing an average 45-50% YoY increase in flight bookings, driven by a mix of homebound travel, leisure getaways, and spiritual tourism. Cultural hotspots are witnessing a surge in demand this Holi. Flight bookings to Ayodhya have skyrocketed by 50% YoY for Holi, while Varanasi and Amritsar have seen a 20-30% YoY increase. Tier-2 and 3 cities are witnessing a surge in flight bookings for the Holi weekend, with Gorakhpur seeing the highest increase at 154% YoY. With airlines rolling out attractive discounts, it’s a great opportunity for travellers to book their trips at affordable fares.
Travellers are also making the most of the Holi long-weekend to visit short-haul international destinations such as Abu Dhabi which is witnessing a 146% YoY rise, followed by Bangkok and Singapore at 38% and 40%, respectively. Among domestic leisure getaways, Andaman and Nicobar Islands have emerged as the top pick for travellers this Holi.”
The domestic destination which has seen a surge in book during Holi weekends other than Gorakhpur are Port Blair, 78% YoY; Ayodhya, 50%; Darbhanga, 43% YoY; Bagdogra, 43% YoY; Varanasi, 30% YoY; Dehradun, 28% YoY; Srinagar, 23% YoY; Madurai, 17% YoY; Guwahati, 17% YoY; Imphal, 12% YoY; and Amritsar, 11% YoY.
