STB promotes MICE through ITB Asia

Singapore has witnessed a five per cent year on year growth in visitor arrival numbers from India

According to GB Srithar, Area Director – South Asia (Marketing), Singapore Tourism Board (STB), Singapore is recognised as a MICE destinations and it is necessary to leverage the abundant opportunities it provides. This year, the ITB Asia, 2012, a key event under TravelRave, will take place at The Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore from October 17-19. In addition, TravelRave‘s third edition returns to Singapore this year from 15 – 19 October with eight events.

Commenting on ITB Asia, Srithar said that the B2B event features a range of travel products, services and goods, as well as educational content, through a strong conference programme, serving as a knowledge platform for the Asian travel, tourism and hospitality industry. “MICE is a very vital segment for Singapore and we want to see a significant increase in our business traveller numbers. Events such as ITB Asia help us gain a lot of momentum and put us right at the top of our game,” he stated.

Srithar added that India has consistently emerged as one of the top five performing markets for Singapore in the last five years, in terms of international visitor arrivals and tourism receipts. “Singapore received a total of 869,000 Indian tourists in 2011, displaying a five per cent year-on-year growth. Singapore has long been a popular international destination among Indian travellers.”

With the constantly renewing tourism landscape, STB keeps the tourism industry abreast of the latest offerings, initiatives and trends. “In the coming months we will intensify our efforts to promote our offerings under the campaign, in partnership with our travel agent partners,” revealed Srithar.
