The elections for the new Managing Committee of Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) recently held at the Vivanta by Taj – Yeshwantpur, Bangalore saw strong competition and ended up in an unusual turn of events with a tie between Iqbal Mulla and Rajji Rai, both getting 206 votes each for the post of President, one of the voter who was closely following all the developments told T3. Sanjay Narula was the third candidate with 172 votes. There was also a tie between Mukesh Patel and Gurmeet Singh Vij, for one of the seven posts on the Managing Committee.
Re-elections for the post of President and one post on the Managing Committee that witnessed a tie will be held on January 27, 2014 in Mumbai. Apart from this, Sunil Kumar was elected as Vice President, Harmandeep Singh Anand as Hon. Secretary and Marzban Antia as Hon. Treasurer for a two-year term.
This is perhaps the first time in years that there has been a tie for the post of President, although the committee faced a similar situation years ago in Bengaluru when both the Presidential candidates garnered equal number of votes. This was sorted by counting the election officer’s vote as the final vote.
The new Managing Committee includes Lokesh Bettaiah, Jay Bhatia, Jyoti Mayal, Imtiaz Quereshi, Vijay Mohan Raj and Kirti Vyas.
The elections were conducted at the Annual General Meeting of the Association soon after the 61st Annual Convention of TAAI in Benagluru.
