Growth of 31.2% in tourists availing of TVoA scheme

During the month of October 2013, a total of 1,911 VoAs were issued under this Scheme as compared to 1,457 VoAs during the month of October 2012, registering a growth of 31.2 per cent. A growth of 28.5 per cent has been recorded in the number of tourists availing of the tourist Visa on Arrival (VoA) Scheme during the period January to October, 2013. A total number of 15,770 VoAs have been issued in this period as compared to 12,273 VoAs during the corresponding period of 2012.

As a facilitative measure to attract more foreign tourists to India, Government launched the “Visa on Arrival” (VoA) Scheme in January 2010 for citizens of five countries, viz. Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore, visiting India for tourism purposes. The Scheme was extended to the citizens of six more countries, namely Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Laos and Myanmar in January 2011.
During the period January to October 2013, a total number of 15,770 VoAs were issued as compared to 12,273 VoAs during the corresponding period of 2012 registering a growth of 28.5 per cent. During the month of October 2013, a total of 1,911 VoAs were issued under this Scheme as compared to 1,457 VoAs during the month of October 2012, registering a growth of 31.2 per cent.

The number of VoAs issued under this scheme during October 2013 for nationals of the eleven countries was Japan (436), New Zealand (435), the Philippines (409), Singapore (249), Indonesia (220), Finland (97), Myanmar (27),Vietnam (24), Luxembourg (8), Cambodia (5) and Laos (1).

The number of VoAs issued under the Scheme during January to October 2013 was Japan (5,304), New Zealand (2,925), the Philippines (2,289), Indonesia (2,156), Singapore (1,806), Finland (790), Vietnam (166), Luxembourg (117), Myanmar (113),Cambodia (89) and Laos (15).

During the period January to October 2013, the highest number of VoAs were issued at New Delhi airport (8,829) followed by Mumbai (3,286), Chennai (2,210), Kolkata (1,099), Bangalore (174), Kochi (75), Hyderabad (68) and Trivandrum(29).
