Virgin Money London Marathon comes to India

Bangalore based Active Holiday Company has been awarded representation as Virgin Money London Marathon’s official travel company in India. The Virgin Money London Marathon is one of the top six world marathons that form a part of the World Marathon Majors and this is the first time an Indian company has been allowed to represent the race in India. This tie up will enable marathon runners in India to obtain guaranteed entry to the race for 2014.

The London Marathon course will take runners across architectural and historic marvels such as the Old Royal Navy College, the Tower Bridge, with the penultimate mile offering a view of the London Eye, the Big Ben and Buckingham Palace, and finishing alongside St. James’s Palace. Unlike some other races that have stringent timing regulations for race entry, the Virgin Money London Marathon is for runners of all abilities to participate.

Considered one of the best organised marathons in the world, the Virgin Money London Marathon attracts both amateur as well as top marathoners internationally. The 2013 marathon witnessed as many as 34,631 participants and over the 32 year-long history of the marathon, a total of 9,17,224 runners have completed the race.

“With marathon running seeing exponential growth in India, more and more amateur runners are adding international marathons to their running calendars and the Virgin Money London Marathon is right on top of the list of many such enthusiasts”, said, Gauri Jayaram, Founder of the Active Holiday Company.

Typically entries for the Virgin Money London Marathon open 11 months before the race and each year’s ballot attracts more than 1,00,000 applicants. With a limit of 35,000 runners for the race – many of them reserved for UK nationals, the chances of getting a confirmed race entry for International runners are very poor.
