Karnataka to develop lesser known destinations

Karnataka Tourism is set to develop the unexplored parts of the state that hold tourism potential, and is encouraging private involvement for development of these regions. This information was provided by a spokesperson from Karnataka Tourism, at the recently concluded Gujarat Travel Mart. “Under our new policy we are able to help private investors with land acquisition and any aid required for the same. We are looking to develop lesser known destinations such as Aihole, Badami and Pattadakal which hold tourism potential,” he said.

He further added that Rs 100 crores has already been invested to reshape the hill station Kemmangundi and restructure its accommodation infrastructure. “We are planning light and sound shows in Hampi and Mysore and have further development plans in the pipeline for Srirangapatnam and Nandi Hills. The Atithi concept (homestay) is widely popular among tourists, especially in Chikmaglur and Coorg for its cultural offerings,” said the representative.

According to him, Gujarat and Maharashtra are the state’s largest domestic source markets. Medical tourism, he added, is a new concept in the state and is being tapped in every possible way.
