MOT FOCUSES TO REVIVE AILING UNITS OF ITDC

The Union Minister of State for Tourism (I/C), Culture (I/C) and Civil Aviation, Mahesh Sharma took a review meeting of the functioning of Indian Tourism Development Corporation(ITDC) at the Hotel Janpath in New Delhi recently.

Addressing the senior officials of ITDC, Sharma said that from now onwards all efforts must be made to revive the ailing units/hotels of ITDC which will require a major change in work culture. He asked the employees to identify problems, dedicate a person responsible, draw up a time frame to correct it and continuously monitor the progress.

The Minister said emphatically that there can be no compromise on delivery, and results must become visible. We will try to revive hotels with some management problems but will have to lease out those with sticky problems , for example, Hotel Ashok at Jammu, the Minister said. Disinvestment should be the last option, he added.

He explained that an entrepreneur’s approach and vigorous marketing is required to take ITDC to new heights. It is a sector which is capable of showing quick results and results must start pouring in by the next year, he emphasized.

In a separate meeting with the staff, Sharma assured them that their problems will be sorted out within three months and all issues will be addressed only after discussions with the staff.

Additional Secretary, MoT and CMD, ITDC, Girish Shankar made a presentation giving an overview of the working of the Corporation. Secretary, MoT, Lalit Panwar , officers of the Ministry and employees of ITDC were present during the meeting.
