US President Donald Trump has announced that his administration is banning all travel between the US and Europe – except the United Kingdom for 30 days, starting Friday, amid scare over novel coronavirus or COVID-19, indicating that the ban would include halting trade.
He said “strong but necessary” restrictions would not apply to the UK where 460 cases of the illness have been confirmed. “Europe saw more cases because governments failed to stop travel from China, where the COVID-19 epidemic began,” Trump said in his address to the nation.
“The European Union failed to take same precautions and restrict travel to China,” Trump said Wednesday night, speaking from the Oval Office. “As a result, a large number of new clusters in the United States were seeded by travelers from Europe.”
