Adelaide Oval felicitates Zaheer Khan

Adelaide Oval, the historic cricket ground; felicitated legendary ace Indian bowler Zaheer Khan at the stadium recently for his contribution to cricket. As part of the felicitation programme, Darren Chandler, General Manager Marketing and Operations Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority, Minister Ridgway and his wife Meredith, Rodney Harrex, CE South Australian Tourism Commission and Raju Narayanan, Director of Indian Engagement for Government of SA welcomed Zaheer Khan and Sagarika Ghatge to acknowledge his contribution towards international cricket over lunch at the Hill of Grace Restaurant. A curated food and wine experience was specially designed for the bowling legend and his wife and the couple spent the rest of the day at the Adelaide Oval discovering different experiences at the ground.

Laura Robinson, Tourism Manager, Adelaide Oval said, “India and Australia have shared excellent cricketing relations over the years. Being a cricket-loving nation, Australia recognises that Zaheer Khan has not only been a vital contributor to Indian cricket, but also to the very sport itself. Hence, the Adelaide Oval team wanted to appreciate Zaheer’s performance over the course of his career and were delighted to host him and his lovely wife Sagarika at the stadium. We believe that this will only strengthen the common love for cricket that India and Australia share.”

Speaking about his experience in Adelaide, Zaheer Khan said, “Adelaide Oval is a fantastic place to play cricket and I have fond memories at this stadium. I’ve always looked forward to the Adelaide leg of the trip on previous tours because it’s also one of the most unique destinations in Australia and there’s so much to discover here. Being recognised and appreciated here therefore is very special and I look forward to returning back to explore more of the State very soon.”

Sharing her thoughts on the felicitation, Dana Urmonas, Regional Director (India & Southeast Asia), SATC said, “We are happy to have hosted Zaheer in South Australia.  Over the years, cricket has been a major draw factor in pulling Indians to visit and explore Adelaide and its surrounding regions like Kangaroo Island, Barossa and Fleurieu Peninsula. With Adelaide Oval hosting the Test series opener between India and Australia in December this year, we are looking forward to welcoming many more Indian visitors and showing off our State.”

The Adelaide Oval is one of the oldest cricket stadiums in the world and offers visitors a range of unique experiences to discover the iconic stadium better. Visitors can embark on a RoofClimb at the Adelaide Oval which culminates in a stunning 360° panoramic view of the city and a lean out point directly above the pitch, a jaw-dropping 50 feet above the ground. It is also the only stadium in the world where cricket enthusiasts can take a seat on one of the 16 sky-high seats to watch six overs of the game on a match day. Besides RoofClimb, there are a variety of experiences for cricket enthusiasts to explore, including a free tour of the legendary Bradman museum. Visitors also get the opportunity to visit the iconic players’ locker room and operate the 100+ year-old scoreboard as part of a pre-booked stadium tour.

Australia will host India at Adelaide Oval for the first Test of the 2018 Border-Gavaskar Trophy from December 6-10. During the series, Indian travellers can enjoy Adelaide’s vibrant nightlife at popular pubs and bars around the city centre, interact with native Australian wildlife in Adelaide Hills, enjoy world-class food & wine experiences at Barossa and McLaren Vale and thrilling adventure on Kangaroo Island.
