As a sign that business travel in India is rapidly rebounding, OYO has added more than 1250 corporates since March 2022. The recovery is led by small and medium enterprises, traditional business houses & conglomerates, startups, travel management companies as well as film production houses which have emerged as a key customer category for OYO in recent times.

The list of top cities searched and booked by corporates include Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Pune and Delhi. Small and medium businesses continue to contribute significantly to the business travel bookings as more and more people from this segment opt for physical interactions; still a key factor for them to expand their business.

OYO’s Business Accelerator division has serviced over 6600 corporate clients since January 2021.

While any customer can easily book a room on OYO through its app or website, customers with corporate tie ups get curated stays options, strong personalised customer support and integration with their accounting system.

Domestic corporate travel is one of OYO’s important focus areas, but intermittent disruptions since the pandemic had led to subdued or inconsistent booking patterns. OYO’s recent focus on its mid to premium segment brand categories Townhouse Oak, Townhouse, 5 by OYO and 4 by OYO has also provided companies quality stay choices.

Commenting on the growth in corporate travel, Ankit Gupta, Chief Executive Officer, OYO, India said, “The appetite for business travel has returned strongly since the frequent change in travel restrictions has ebbed, making travel planning for business trips more certain and predictable. For a lot of our corporate customers, conducting business over virtual meetings was a stop gap and sub-optimal solution. Such customers are leading the business travel revival. Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions are the other key use cases fuelling the growth of business travel”.

OYO has also engaged with more than 2800 offline travel agents since January 2021. 

Dubai has been named the number one destination globally for association meetings in 2021 by a report of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA). The newly published ICCA Statistics Report ranked Dubai the top city in 2021 both for the number of meetings organised by international associations and estimated participants at these events.

Dubai was among the first destinations to resume in-person business events after the COVID-19 pandemic, opening itself to hosting international meetings and attendees as early as October 2020.

Dubai’s number one ranking in the ICCA Statistics Report reflects the priority placed on restarting business events in Dubai and engaging with the association community to highlight the city’s readiness and safety measures.

“The ability of international associations to meet in person safely is critical, giving them and their respective memberships vital opportunities for knowledge sharing, professional development and networking. We continue to work closely with international associations to ensure that Dubai can provide a platform for their business events and add momentum to the recoveries of the respective professions and industries they serve.”

Dubai is showcasing its excellence in hosting business events at the 2022 edition of IMEX Frankfurt.

Surat, the financial capital of Gujarat and hub for diamond and textile business in India, attracts air travelers in large numbers. Considering the magnificent rise in passenger traffic, Airports Authority of India (AAI) is extensively working towards the holistic development of the airport with a project cost of Rs 353 crores.

The development project includes extension of existing terminal building from 8474 sqm to 25520 sqm. In addition to the extension of terminal building, the expansion of apron from five parking bays to 18 Parking bays and construction of parallel taxi track (2905 m X 30 m) work is also in progress.

After completion of project, the new state-of –the-art extended terminal building    will be capable of handling 1200 Domestic and 600 International passengers’ during peak hours making the annual passenger capacity of 2.6 million. Equipped with all modern passenger amenities, the terminal building will have 20 check-in counters, five aerobridges, In-Line baggage handling system, five conveyor belts for arriving passengers.  The new terminal building will also have a parking area with capacity for 475 cars.     

The terminal will be a 4-Star GRIHA rated energy efficient building with sustainability features. The interiors of the terminal building will reflect the art and culture of Gujarat. More than 58% of the work for extension of terminal building is complete and the building will be ready by 31st December 2022.

Surat Airport caters to a large number of business community across the country, as it is directly connected to 16 cities across the country. The new world-class terminal building of the airport will enhance the connectivity to this industrial City, giving impetus to the overall growth of the region. 

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) is launching an ‘Arts in Hong Kong’ campaign to showcase to a global audience the city’s extraordinary and enduring appeal as an arts and cultural hub.

The campaign aims to further raise Hong Kong’s international profile, offering in-depth community arts and cultural tours and interactive art tech experiences to encourage local public and visitors alike to rediscover the city from a cultural perspective.

HKTB Executive Director Dane Cheng said: “In-depth travel experiences have become a major global trend, and arts and culture are a key driver of this trend. The Hong Kong Tourism Board has organised an ‘Art Month’ promotion for the past nine years when international events were held in town to generate city-wide art vibes. As well as the staging of large-scale events, new world-class art landmarks such as M+ and the Hong Kong Palace Museum are also opening their doors, boosting Hong Kong’s allure as an arts and cultural travel destination. As the city’s arts scene becomes richer than ever, the HKTB will make ‘Arts in Hong Kong’ a year-round promotional platform to raise awareness of the city’s always-on, diverse experience of arts and culture, and establish Hong Kong as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange.”  

‘Arts in Hong Kong’ is being rolled out in May with international events, including Art Basel Hong Kong and French May, along with a series of unique neighbourhood projects headlining a series of promotions to demonstrate that large-scale art and cultural events have returned to Hong Kong. The campaign will also form part of the HKTB’s existing ‘Hong Kong Summer Treats’ promotion that encourages residents to explore Hong Kong from new perspectives.

The HKTB is working closely with the organisers of international arts events staged in Hong Kong to increase their reach an impact. It has teamed up with Art Basel Hong Kong to host online tours, for instance, and has invited Hong Kong artists to bring an explosion of colour to the streets by displaying their inspirational works on the city’s iconic trams.

The integration of arts and technology is a rapidly growing trend, and the HKTB is stepping up its use of technology to promote art events and cultural landmarks. It has produced a video to promote the interactive virtual reality experience of French May’s highlighted programme Intraverse and is supporting the promotion of the moving image work The Shape of Light – a joint presentation by Art Basel and M+ – as well as the Hong Kong Museum of Art’s outdoor artwork installation, Resonance-In-Sight.

Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) announced that its iconic brand – Taj has achieved the distinction of being Number One yet again on the list of the Strongest Indian Brands by Brand Finance in their coveted ‘India 100 2022’ report.

In this report, released by the world’s leading independent brand valuation consultancy, Taj achieved a brand strength index (BSI) score of 88.9 out of 100 and a corresponding elite AAA brand strength rating based on factors such as marketing investment, stakeholder equity, and business performance.

Brand Finance defines Brand Strength as the efficacy of a brand’s performance on intangible measures, relative to its competitors. Each brand is assigned a BSI score out of 100, which feeds into the brand value calculation. Based on the calculations, each brand is assigned a corresponding rating up to AAA in a format similar to credit rating.

Deltin, India’s largest luxury gaming and entertainment brand which recently took the operational handover of the in-house casino at The Zuri White Sand Resorts in South Goa, announced the commencement of operations of the casino at the property from June 01, 2022.

Virgin Atlantic launched its second daily service from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport to London Heathrow.

Thomas Cook (India) inaugurated a new Gold Circle Partner (franchise) outlet in Agra to capitalise on the strong and growing travel opportunity from the region.

This expansion augments Thomas Cook India’s distribution and reach in Uttar Pradesh, including Agra, to 10 consumer access centres: 2 owned branch and 8 Gold Circle Partner (franchise) outlets. The Ministry of Tourism recently organized a Consultative Meeting on Draft National Tourism Policy. Union Minister of Tourism G. Kishan Reddy invited the Union Ministers from different Ministries. The meeting was attended by Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport & Highways; Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas; Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Health & Family Welfare; Ajay Bhatt, Minister of State for Tourism & Defence and Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for Tourism & Shipping were also present in the meeting.

Secretaries and other senior officers of different Central Ministries also attended the meeting.

The draft National Tourism Policy was deliberated in detail. Further, various valuable suggestions were given during the consultative meeting by the invitees.

Reddy appreciated the valuable suggestions, and it was decided that the draft National Tourism Policy may be finalized after suitably incorporating the various suggestions received during the meeting.
