IndiGo receives IATA membership certificate

IndiGo received its IATA membership certificate yesterday in Gurgaon. Conrad Clifford, Regional Vice President for Asia Pacific, IATA presented the certificate to Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, President and COO, IndiGo at their office premises in Gurgaon. The membership will help IndiGo align to global practices developed by IATA and further strengthen the airline’s partnership portfolio.

IndiGo recently announced a one-way codeshare with Qatar Airways and partnered with Turkish Airlines in December 2018 to expand its international presence. As part of its expansion strategy, IndiGo entered into new markets including Turkey, Saudi Arabia, China, Myanmar and Vietnam in 2019, commencing operations to multiple cities in each market.

At the occasion, Prock-Schauer, President and COO, IndiGo said, “This is a strategic milestone, as the airline steers its focus towards international expansion. Being a member of IATA will help IndiGo grow its network faster by building relationships with other airlines, after the recently announced codeshare with Qatar Airways and almost a year-long successful partnership with Turkish Airlines. IATA membership becomes more critical at this time, as it will be important for us to achieve our mission of making IndiGo the best air transportation system in the world”.

Clifford said, “We are delighted to welcome IndiGo to the IATA family. Our 290+ member airlines connect people, deliver goods, link economies, spearhead development and enrich our societies. That’s why we call aviation the business of freedom. IndiGo is our fourth member from India—a market with huge potential and many challenges. The success of IndiGo in India is truly inspirational.  We look forward to working with the IndiGo team to help shape industry standards, best practices and policies that ensure the safe, efficient and sustainable growth of aviation, in India and globally”.

IndiGo is currently an IOSA registered airline and IATA Clearing House member. IATA is the global trade association for the airline industry, representing over 290 airlines.
