Air India and Avianca sign codeshare agreement

Air India (AI), the national airline of India and Avianca (AV), the national airline of Colombia has signed a code share agreement that will come into effect from 28th August 2018. Under this arrangement, Avianca will place its ‘AV’ code on flights operated by Air India on the Delhi-London-Delhi route. Likewise, Air India will place its ‘AI’ code on flights operated by Avianca on the Bogota-London-Bogota route. Travelers will earn miles on these flights in their respective frequent flyer programs:  Flying Returns for Air India and LifeMiles for Avianca.

This code share agreement between AI and AV, will be the first and the only one, which will provide seamless connectivity to passengers travelling between the two countries, India and Colombia.

“This new codeshare agreement with our Star Alliance partner Air India, will allow us to continue expanding our network to offer our Latin American customers broader traveling options to the Asian market; furthermore, it is an honor for Avianca to offer passengers originating in India the World Class Service that characterizes us”, said Hernan Rincon, CEO and Executive President of Avianca.

“Air India feels honored to enter into this code share partnership with fellow Star Alliance member, Avianca. The code share with Avianca will enable Air India to reach out to the Latin American market. The partnership will facilitate increased flow of traffic both leisure as well as business and will promote trade, tourism and culture between India and Latin America”, said Seema Srivastava, Executive Director – Strategy and Planning, Air India.

Julian Guerrero Orozco, Procolombia´s Tourism Vice President, said: “with this code-share, Colombia will be closer to Asian countries, increasing traveler arrivals from India, which had a 71.6% rise between 2014 and 2017 according to Colombian Migration Office. This is a new opportunity for the country to reach distant markets”.
