Maharashtra Tweaks Strategies To Boost Tourism

Maharashtra Tourism reveals its new initiatives adapting to ‘Rethinking Tourism’ during the celebration of World Tourism Day, 2022 at Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium. The event was graced by Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Tourism Minister; Dr. Nitin Kareer, Additional Chief Secretary – Tourism; Milind Borikar, Director, Directorate of Tourism (DoT); Amruta Fadnavis, Social Activist & Singer and Singer-Composer Shankar Mahadevan.

To support the global agenda of World Tourism Day – ‘Rethinking Tourism’, the tourism department took the pledge to facilitate more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive tourism.  Speaking on the occasion, Lodha appealed to everyone to keep Maharashtra at the forefront due to its untapped touristic features.

“This year’s theme is ‘Rethinking Tourism’ which Maharashtra Tourism is implementing by using innovative activities in the field of tourism. The effort is well appreciated as one international tourist visit leads to the employment of 9 people. Hence, the state government is supporting our initiatives.”

On the occasion, Maharashtra Tourism launched 75 Mumbai videos covering 200 tourist locations in Mumbai. The episodes will be posted weekly on Maharashtra Tourism’s official Youtube channel. It is also creating 360-degree Virtual Reality (VR) videos and vlogs of all the 6 UNESCO heritage sites in Maharashtra with a total expenditure of around 29 lakhs.

The state tourism department also launched ‘Kaano Dekhi with Unlimited Maharashtra’ podcast to create awareness about various destinations, cultures and cuisines. The podcast series will be aired weekly for a period of 6 months showcasing various segments of Maharashtra. The tourism department has also launched 3 television campaigns to integrate optimal promotions and publicity of Maharashtra Tourism.

‘Maharashtra on my lips by TV18’ is to showcase different destinations along with respective local Maharashtrian cuisines that will be aired on CNN News18, CNBC AWAZ, and CNBC Prime HD. ‘Postcards of Maharashtra by National Geographic’, based on reflecting forts, temples, art & music, wildlife, wonders of Maharashtra, festivals, and architecture that will be aired on National Geographic Channel and FOX life. ‘RoadtrippinwithRnM by History TV’ to promote Maharashtrian cuisine and destinations like Mumbai, Alibaug, Mahabaleshwar, Kolhapur, Satara, Pune, Ahmednagar and Nashik that will be aired on History TV18 SD & History TV18 HD.

To support Unique Tourism Projects, the Department of Tourism signed an MoU with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) for Light and Sound show at the Gateway of India. The IOCL will finance the project through the CSR funds and facilitate the operation of sound & light show through its technical expertise.

Similarly, another MoU was signed with Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) to start Mining Tourism in Maharashtra to provide unique and experiential ways to unfold Maharashtra’s mines and minerals treasure at Saoner and Adasa in Nagpur Area, Niljai Wani Area and Bhatadi in Chandrapur Area. Moreover, the department also launched 7 city brochures that were newly created with the aim of rethinking on new ways of boosting tourism. The 7 cities are namely Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Nashik, Kolhapur and Ratnagiri.
