London’s Heathrow Airport has resumed normal operations after a power outage forced its closure on March 21. The disruption was caused by a fire at an electrical substation in west London, which also left thousands of homes without power and led to the evacuation of around 150 people.
“Flights have resumed at Heathrow following yesterday’s power outage. We’re running all flights as scheduled,” says airport’s official website.
As the UK’s busiest airport, Heathrow handles approximately 1,300 flights daily.
In response to the outage, additional flights have been scheduled to reconnect stranded passengers and reposition aircraft. The airport has also issued the advisory saying that the passengers traveling (March 22) are advised to check with their airlines for real-time updates.
Heathrow authorities have apologised for the disruption and assured travellers that operations are stabilising.
Additionally, Air India flights to and from London Heathrow were among those affected by yesterday’s airport closure. The airline cancelled its scheduled services and issued a waiver code to facilitate rebooking and refunds for impacted passengers. Notably, Qantas also diverted its Singapore-London and Perth-London flights to Paris, arranging buses to transport passengers to London. The airline issued statement yesterday saying that they are assisting the affected travellers and will directly notify those impacted.
