Macau witnesses surge in Indian tourists

Statistics show that from close to 29,000 Indian visitors in 2006, the footfall to Macau increased to almost 160,000 in 2012. The destination has been a hot favourite among Indians in recent years with endless entertainment options, world class venues for every occasion and high class accommodation. The advent of the Indian market is evident by the addition of an Indian restaurant to The Venetian Macao’s offerings.

According to a representative of MGTO in India, MGTO has been working extensively to explore the Indian market. “All efforts are being made to lure the Indian traveller to Macau. In addition to an advertising blitzkrieg and familiarisation trips for both media and trade agents, various promotional techniques such as bus branding, hoarding, branding promotion at coffee outlets, cinema promotion, mini mart etc are being adopted to endorse Macau as a tourism and leisure destination par excellence in India. MGTO has proactively planned future promotional projects and exploited the new face of Macau as a tourism and leisure destination par excellence,” the representative said.

To create awareness of Macau as a global centre of tourism and leisure in Year 2013, MGTO will strengthen regional cooperation and international exchange, enrich composition of tourism products and strengthen the image of business incentive tourism and wedding incentive tourism, innovate the promotion of tourism, and broaden the tourism market mix. The Tourism Organisation also intend to enforce tourism management, and optimise administrative functions. Moreover, MGTO has always adopted the policy of working very closely with travel agents.

“Our endeavour has always been and will continue to be to promote Macau along with our travel partners. With our travel partners we have and will continue doing joint advertising, promotions at trade fairs, being part of road shows, joint promotion at food and coffee outlets, radio, mall promotion etc. We are also promoting Macau aggressively in cities other than Mumbai and Delhi by organising roadshows and workshops for our travel partners. Our concentration this year will be on educating and empowering travel partners in newer growth areas like Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Lucknow and Ahmadabad and many more cities in India about Macau and what it offers to the Indian traveller who wants value for money,” the representative said.
