KOREA TOURISM’S SECOND INDIA OFFICE

To improve tourism relations within India, Korea Tourism Organisation which until now had its India office in Delhi, has opened its second representative office in the country, in Mumbai. The office will work to promote Korea as a premium tourism destination to the travel trade, consumers, media and airlines. The organisation plans to collaborate with travel agents based in Western India, to introduce a wide array of travel options and is open for tie-ups with Indian tour operators, in order to promote the destination. Korea is looking at a 20 per cent increase from the Indian market this year. The country saw a total of 86,547 Indian visitors, which was an increase of 18.9 per cent from 2009. “Having representation in Mumbai will heighten the awareness of Korea’s many attractions and the state-of-the-art facilities in the country to further develop business and leisure travel,” said. Jae Sang, Lee, Director of Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) in India. “We look forward to working closely with airlines and the Indian travel industry to expand this clearly growing market.” The representation office will work with airlines to encourage new services to Korea, generate press coverage of the country and assist the travel trade with information to help generate increased bookings to Korea. “We are placing significant emphasis on positioning Korea as a Leisure and MICE destination among Indian travelers as we see a big demand from the market. We will like to invite companies from India to Korea,” said Charles Lim, Deputy Director, Korea Tourism Organisation. Korea is on a new high because of the sporting events that are lined up for the future which will surely bring the country in the limelight. Korea recently even won the bid for the Winter Olympics which will be held in Pyeongchang in 2018.
