‘Close cooperation with trade partners is the key to success’

Stella Warmuth, Area Manager Middle East, Asia Pacific & Africa, airberlin speaks with T3 about her observations of the India market

How has the response to airberlin been so far from the India market?

airberlin is a key airline in Europe and offers a wide route network with 171 destinations worldwide. One of our key strategic concepts is based on the constant optimisation of our route network through cooperation agreements and alliance membership. With our partner Etihad Airways we have marked important steps in developing presence in the Indian market and offer combined codeshare flights from India to Abu Dhabi. The successful response is the positive feedback from our guests and partners as well as high growth numbers year over year.

Which of airberlin’s routes have been the most popular among Indian travellers?

We see an increased demand for our German capital Berlin, especially from Delhi and Mumbai. Via Berlin, one of airberlin’s hubs, we offer transfer connection options with excellent connecting times within airberlin’s extended German and European route network, for example to Scandinavia, Italy, Poland or Spain. In addition, we recently launched two new nonstop connections from Abu Dhabi – a daily flight to Stuttgart and a daily flight to the Austrian capital Vienna.

Does airberlin plan to service any new routes out of India?

Thanks to our strong partnership with Etihad Airways which operates multiple flights from India to Abu Dhabi, airberlin is offering seamless connectivity for its Indian guests via Abu Dhabi to Germany and beyond. Currently we offer codeshare flights from seven Indian cities including Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, Mumbai and recently added Kolkata.

Do you work closely with the travel trade to increase visibility in the market?

A close cooperation with our trade partners is the key to success. The Indian outbound travel market is growing rapidly and airberlin together with its partner Etihad Airways ensures quality and best service to its guests. Being one of airberlin’s key markets in Asia, we are continuously investing in the Indian market. In 2014, airberlin appointed Aviareps as its representative to grow commercial relations with trade partners. Furthermore, in 2015, airberlin will become a BSP member and further commercial activities with Etihad Airways will provide our trade partners with more benefits.
